Santiago Arau Pontones

Santiago Arau is a Mexico City born photographer and filmmaker. Throughout his 20-year long career he has had multiple solo exhibitions as well as partaking in group exhibitions at cultural institutions such as Casa de América in Madrid, Spain or famous international exhibitions like the Venice Biennale in Italy.
Furthermore, his photographic works have been published by international media outlets, such as the BBC, The Guardian or El País.

In 2017 he co-directed the documentary “Ruptured City” together with Diego Rabasa, chronicling the 2017 central Mexico earthquakes as part of the documentary series “A Moment in Mexico”, which was nominated at the 40th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards. One of his latest trips through Mexico is the subject of his first book, titled “Territories”.

His photographic work comprises a broad spectrum: from documentary photography, capturing life in Mexico City throughout the years to sports photography in several World Cups and Olympic Games. Most recently, he has specialized in aerial photography, using drones to capture his images.
