ISOLATION

The term Isolation carries a mostly negative connotation, a pervading sense of emptiness and loneliness. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced millions into adapting a strange new way of living, marked by enforced solitude and social-distancing as literal life-saving measures, drawing isolation to the forefront of people’s minds.

While solitude can be seen as a choice, isolation differs from it in its imposed nature, be that through geographical, political or biological factors. It can mean financial difficulty, restricted resources and an impact on mental health. How people cope with isolation varies immensely, each experience and outlook is unique and shaped by different factors.
When life slows down, perceptions can be heightened. Throughout the history of art, isolation and alienation have been and still are frequent themes, as artists channel retrospection and introversion to spark imagination.

"Isolation" is an exploration of different approaches to the eponymous subject, through the eyes of five different photographers from all over the world.
